So Who is this Person
Whose Page You Are Visiting?
Well, since you are most likely a friend visiting this page, then you already know about me. And if don't know me, well, I'm not about to reveal every detail about me here. But for the curious, here is a little bit about me:
I have recently completed my M.Sc.
in Geographic Information Systems at the University
of Edinburgh. Yes, it's a mouthful, but what does it mean? Well, Geographic
Information Systems (GIS) is a growing field which is most simply defined
as "smart maps." In other words, it combines mapping capabilities with database
information. To read more about my studies, and my adventures in Scotland, check out
my Scotland page, where I will be posting
regular updates and photos too!
In May 1999, I graduated with my Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Geography from Queen's University in
Kingston, Ontario. The Geography program at Queen's is very appealing because of the diverse courses you can study. Some of my courses included the Historical Geography, Medical Geography, Cultural Geography, as well as the Geographies of Africa, Latin America, and South America. I especially enjoyed looking at the ways you can examine cultures through the use of maps. The use of Geography in literature in another interesting topic.
I also have a strong interest in Web design
(which you can hopefully see by my web site). I have spent my year between my degrees working as the Web Co-ordinator for Cabinet Office with the Government of Ontario. During my time at Queen's University, I spent a year working for Information Techonology Services - my position involved creating
pages for both professors and the University itself. I was also one of two Webmasters for
Golden Words, a campus humour paper,
for the 1998-99 year. Previously, I was the
chair for the Web Design Committee for Queen's Alma Mater Society. If you
would like to look at some of the pages I have worked, take a look
at my Web Design Page.
My other interests include watching films, swimming, aqua-aerobics, computers, playing guitar, travelling and painting. To find out about some of my other interests, you can check
out my Links Page.
